Urban Institute’s Information Technology department is an integral part of our study teams. The IT group supports research by creating programs and tools to collect data and analyze policy.
In 2007, IT programmers’ work spanned projects and products like these:
- A web survey system for the Justice Policy Center’s National Census of State Prosecutors
- Web tools for the Federal Justice Statistics Resource Center
- A computer program for the Health Policy Center to compare differences in treatment and cost for patients in different types of long-term care facilities
- Longitudinal databases for schools, students, and teachers for our National Center for Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research (CALDER)
- Programming that helped researchers explore the link between food assistance programs and childhood obesity
- Improvements to the Transfer Income Model, which simulates changes to major government tax, transfer, and health programs
- Web-based tools that allow far easier collaboration with other institutions and our field offices abroad
