Nadia Karamcheva

Nadia Karamcheva is a research associate in the Income and Benefits Policy Center at the Urban Institute, where her research interests span a broad range of topics in labor economics and applied econometrics, with an emphasis on retirement. Her current work explores policy-relevant topics related to older individuals’ employment and savings outcomes, as well as their decisionmaking in Social Security benefit claims, retirement timing, and pension plan participation and contributions.

Before joining Urban she worked at the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, where she coauthored a series of research papers and briefs focused on Social Security claiming strategies, private pension plan coverage, and poverty among the elderly.

Karamcheva has a BA in economics and business administration from the American University in Bulgaria and an MA and PhD in economics from Boston College.
