The Federal Reserve Board uses surveys to study the economic conditions of US households.  These include the Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF), conducted every three years since 1992 and most recently in 2013, and the Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking (SHED), conducted annually since 2013. In this talk, we explored the goals and objectives of each survey and the interplay between them. Jeff Thompson discussed the SCF, including the changes expected in the upcoming 2016 survey. Dave Buchholz and Jeff Larrimore discussed motivations for adding the SHED.  The researchers highlighted the main takeaways from the last survey, especially the findings related to housing. They also discussed how they use these surveys in their own research and offered tips to help other researchers do the same.
