IMPACT 5000 is the District of Columbia Housing Authority’s (DCHA) initiative to increase support for the 5,000 children living in its properties. These children face various issues, from economic uncertainty and community challenges, to food insecurity and safety, to mental and physical health. The DCHA has been identifying needs and opportunities to better support and coordinate services for its children and has asked the Urban Institute to conduct a community-needs assessment for residents of DCHA family properties. This panel presented findings from this recently completed assessment, which illustrated the profound needs of DCHA families and has informed the work of DCHA staff. This panel was an opportunity to present this work, raise awareness of DCHA youth needs, and discuss next steps.
