Supporting Young Parents in Foster Care
Body

Young parents in foster care need services and supports to help them navigate the transitions to both parenthood and adulthood, but child welfare systems are not designed to provide those services and supports.

Join the Urban Institute to learn about findings from the development of a learning agenda on the needs of parenting youth in foster care. Participants will also hear from a panel of child welfare professionals and young parents with lived experience about how child welfare systems could address young parents’ needs.

About the Strategies for Supporting Young People Transitioning Out of Foster Care Series

Many programs help young people transitioning out of foster care prepare to live independently. However, little is known about these programs and their effectiveness. In this webinar series, the Urban Institute and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, with funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, are sharing findings from recent evaluations and discussing new research on these programs to address the critical knowledge gap. We encourage practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and others supporting young people currently or formerly in foster care to join us.

Funding for this event was provided by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families. For more on Urban’s funding policies, go to urban.org/fundingprinciples.

We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. Please email [email protected] if you require any accommodations or have any questions about this event.
